BIOGRAPHY

Abdol-Hamid Eshragh was born in Shiraz in 1931; he graduated in Architecture from the School of Beaux Arts of Paris (1965), the Center of Research and Urbanism, and Centre Tony Garnier (1966).After returning to Iran he joined the National University of Tehran as a Professor of Architecture between 1967 and 1979.

He founded and served as the Managing Director of ESACO Consulting Engineers, which employed over 50 architects and cartographers. He has founded and edited two magazines, Musik-e-Iran (1952-1958), and the bilingual (Persian and French) magazine “Honar-va-Me'mari” (Art and Architecture) (1967 - 1979).

He has published a 15 volume work of Master Plans of Persian cities in Persian and English, and collaborated with Mohsen Foroughi, Houshang Seyhoun and Mohamad Karim Pirnia to release “Shahkarhaye Me'mari ye Iran” (“Masterpieces of Iranian Architecture”). In addition, Abdol-Hamid Eshragh also founded the first Iranian Institute of Cartography and Building Planning (1953) and was one of the founders and Secretary General of the Iranian association of Architects (1968-1979). He currently lives in Paris, where he serves as chairman of three cultural associations. In the past 30 years, he has published over 150 articles regarding Architecture and Iranian culture. He has been a member of the Encyclopaedia Iranica board of trustees since 2001.
