Description
Do – Bar, a three-story building consisting of a duplex house above a home gym, located on a sloped plot of land measuring 200 square meter. The transformation of pilotis into commercial units has altered the urban facade. On Eslami Street, we encounter buildings with tall commercial spaces and transparent facades on the ground floor, while the upper floors consist of residential units. This pattern has divided the urban facade into two separate parts, whereas the traditional pattern of residential houses in the neighborhood has an integrated structure.
In response to these conditions, the design of the Do - Bar house integrates two different functions within a single structure. A house with diverse and flexible spaces, aiming to create a tranquil retreat away from the street’s hustle and bustle; and on the other hand, a gym adjacent to the street that benefits from this proximity. Both functions are organized within a unified brick envelope.
Inside the house, a variety of spaces have been created through sectional changes, accommodating different functions on the second and third floors of the building. The spaces are connected by internal and external vertical voids that converge on the third floor. Terraces positioned between the house and the street, linked to these vertical voids, create a transparent boundary between the interior spaces and the street. Access to the gym is provided from the highest level of the site on Eslami Street, while access to the house is defined from the courtyard via a metal staircase.
The metal staircase transitions into the interior of the house upon reaching the second floor. The interior staircase, which has taken on a solid volumetric form, connects the various levels of the house and reaches the roof at its highest landing. The direct connection between the house and the roof creates a courtyard for the house, with diverse spaces formed through level changes and thickened floor slabs.
